MUSKOKA TRAILS

Along with launching their new website, the Muskoka Trails Council has initiated a passport challenge for everybody to hike six different trails in the area and experience their diversity, each with an unique passport number to record. Upon completion of all the trails, submit their numbers and you'll receive a certificate for your achievement.

  1. Hi Malcolm
Where would one get a list of these trails?

  2. Hi Ed,
Their website www.muskokatrailscouncil.com still isn't active which was supposed to debut on May 1. The 6 trails are Huckleberry Rock Lookout, Wilson's Falls in Bracebridge, Hunter's Bay in Huntsville, Dwight Beach at Lake of Bays, Kahshe Barrens by Gravenhurst and McCrae Lake by Georgian Bay. I did McCrae Lake yesterday and it was difficult to locate as there is no signage for the parking lot or trail and doesn't have a passport code displayed anywhere yet, so I'm hoping my photographs serve as my proof. An easy 3 km each way with incredible views from the top of the cliffs and down at the lake itself.

  3. For those wishing directions to hike the McCrae Lake Conservation Trail I hope this helps:
From the 400 take exit ramp number 168, named Georgian Bay/Crooked Bay Road. For those travelling southbound, the parking lot access is an unmarked road on the right along the exit ramp itself. For those travelling northbound, cross the 400 and turn right to take the south exit ramp for Toronto. The parking lot access will then be the unmarked road on the left along the exit ramp itself.
The trail head starts on the left side of the paking lot, not the main looking trail in the middle which is the portage put in.
About a third of the way in the trail meets up with a snowmobile trail. Cross over and pick up the trail on the other side. Do not follow the snowmobile trail.
Good luck and have a good hike!

  4. Thank you so much I will hike it with paints and a canvas, that photo is great inspiration for a painting spot.
